EN: A few years after we started developing the Hoks I tried a single pole like those still used in the Altai Mountains by the indigenous skiers there. It worked great! since then I have used the Tiak a lot and gotten many of my friends to try it as well. I find it’s the easiest way to really ski the Hoks, particularly for downhills. I have experimented with various woods around here and settled on Lodgepole Pine. There are places in the mountains were the trees grow in very poor conditions, rocky, dry, and too close together. Trees that are 1 1/2 inches in diameter can be 50 -60 years old!. The wood is very strong and supple, while being relatively light. We cut a number of poles in the summer and fall, and then season them under cover. They are then hand peeled, trimmed, sculpted, and branded (literally).

We offer a 1 year warrantee on them, and look forward to getting people to try this ancient but incredibly functional and intuitive style of skiing. We have two sizes of the Tiaks, Medium and Large . If you are under 5’10” order a medium , and over that, order a large. We have found length is not as critical as with normal ski poles and with a longer Tiak one can simply choke up a bit on the grip. This allows us to ship direct without having to get sizes from each customer before shipping. Shipping Tiaks: Tiak Boxes are oversized so we have had to add an oversized fee for shipping costs. Over sized fee is for a single pole and multiple poles has this fee discounted.
FR: Il y a quelques années, alors que nous travaillions à la mise au point du Hok, j’ai essayé un bâton comme ceux utilisés par les skieurs indigènes de l’Altaï. Quel outil efficace! Depuis, j’ai souvent utilisé le Tiak et je l’ai fait essayer par un grand nombre de mes amis. Selon moi, il s’agit de la méthode la plus facile pour skier avec le Hok, particulièrement pour la descente. J’ai essayé plusieurs essences de bois poussant ici et j’ai finalement opté pour le pin tordu latifolié (lodgepole). Dans certains secteurs de la montagne, les arbres poussent dans de très mauvaises conditions : sol rocailleux ou sec, arbres trop rapprochés les uns des autres. Certains arbres dont le tronc est d’un diamètre de 1 ½ pouce peuvent avoir plus de 50 ans! Ce bois est très résistant et très souple, tout en étant relativement léger.
Nous terminons par un léger enduit d’huile de lin, puis nous fixons une dragonne à l’extrémité. Ces bâtons sont très résistants et très utiles lors de toute aventure hivernale dans le bois ou les montagnes. Nous les garantissons pour une durée d'un an. Nous espérons amener les gens à essayer ce style de ski qui, bien qu’il soit ancien, est exceptionnellement fonctionnel et intuitif. Nous offrons maintenant deux longueurs de Tiaks, soit moyen et grand. Si vous mesurez moins de 5 pi 10 po commandez un moyen. Nous avons constaté que la longueur n'est pas aussi critique qu'avec des bâtons de ski normaux. Cela nous permet d'expédier directement sans avoir à obtenir les tailles de chaque client avant l'expédition. Transport : Les boîtes Tiak sont surdimensionnées, nous avons donc dû ajouter des frais d'expédition supplémentaires.
